Tom Cruise and David Beckham share bromance in new book

The ongoing bromance between soccer star, David Beckham and Paramount mogul, Tom Cruise has had Hollywood tongues in fifth-gear for months, and a new book from Sports Illustrated scribe, Grant Wehl, finally proves just how deep the link goes.
David Beckham came to America from Britain in 2007, on a five-year contract with the ‘Los Angeles Galaxy.’ team. Under the svengali-like influence of his long-time manager [and 'American Idol' creator,] Simon Fuller, the 34-year old Londoner and his wife, former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham set up their new home in Beverly Hills, and were soon engaged by the charms of Tom Cruise.
The pair first met in 2003, but with the distance between them now a matter of yards Tom brought his full range to bear. First, he and Katie held a party to welcome the pair to LA. Then David’s trainer was chosen by Cruise, who also hand-picked his friends, such as actor Will Smith.
Within a few weeks, David and Vicky [who had their tenth anniversary on the 4th of July,] had joined the ‘Creative Artists’ agency, that also reps Cruise, and hired Tom’s PR firm – the fabled Rogers & Cowan.
In the book, ‘The Beckham Experiment,’ David tells the author he now talks to his ‘best mate’ Tom almost every day, and takes his advice on a wide range of things – Even naming his son. “I remember saying to Victoria, ‘Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it differently. In Spain, it’s spelled ‘Cruz.’ So that’s why we got it.”
The one line this mind-meld has [so far] not crossed is religion. Dave is quite clear he has no interest in Tom’s odd beliefs, “It’s something I respect, because Tom’s explained what it’s all about. But he’s never said, ‘That is what you should be doing.’ He and Katie have their beliefs, but Victoria and I have our own.”
‘The Beckham Experiment: How the World’s Most Famous Athlete Tried to Conquer America,’ is published by Crown, and makes its hardcover debut on July14th.
